The Gynecology Department at GBMC has over 70 active and practicing physicians. Surgically, the Gynecology service is one of the busiest in Maryland, with over 4,600 inpatient and outpatient procedures performed in Fiscal Year 2009. A regional leader in laparoscopic surgery, GBMC's Department of Gynecology was one of the first in Maryland to perform this type of surgery. Minimally invasive surgeries are available for a number of conditions, and whenever possible are used for gynecologic malignances. GBMC surgeons were also the first to perform da Vinci, robotic assisted gynecologic surgery (2006) at a community (non-academic) hospital in the Mid-Atlantic (MD, DC, DE, VA) region.
GBMC actively supports residency training, with six medical residents on the Gynecology service throughout the year. Additionally, there are fellowships in subspecialty training in the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery.
