Practical and emotional support through challenging times.

Following the complex daily regimens of cancer treatment can be draining for any patient, especially those who may need extra assistance. GBMC's Oncology Support Services team provides free counseling, education, and connections to organizations that help patients and families shoulder their burden.

Through their familiarity and expertise with a world of available services, our team may make it possible to access a range of assistance programs such as:
  • The Red Devils for families affected by breast cancer
  • Pharmaceutical company financial assistance programs
  • Referrals to support groups
  • Home Care
  • Hospice
  • Palliative Care
  • Patient Education Materials
  • Social Security Disability
  • Transportation programs
Dealing with emotional strains.

Oncology Support Services also offers counseling to inpatients, outpatients, and families; helping them deal with depression and uncertainty about the future. In addition, our education resource center empowers patients and families with information and answers to help battle cancer.

Our team matches patients with support organizations to help ease the burden.

John M. McGovern, MD Oncology Support Services offers comprehensive cancer support from experienced social workers and a pastoral counselor. Patients and families will find psychological and social assistance, as well as help with financial issues associated with illness and outpatient treatment. Individual, group and family counseling helps patients, families and caregivers adjust to diagnosis, treatment and lifestyle changes. These services are provided free of charge to GBMC patients.

Patient Resource Navigator 443-849-2961

GBMC provides a Patient Navigator who helps patients and their loved ones access and utilize resources available to help cope with diagnosis and associated challenges. This program is offered free to GBMC patients.

Cancer Survivorship Program 443-849-2961

Once individuals complete cancer treatments and transition into their "new normal" life, they potentially face new issues that can impact quality of life. Survivorship Services offers programs and resources to address specific issues facing cancer survivors. A Survivorship Nurse Coordinator is available to develop an individualized life care plan that can ease a patient's fears and enhance their quality of life.

Spiritual Support Services 443-849-2054

GBMC's ministry is directed towards your spiritual well-being with a desire to be channels of support for you and your family in a variety of ways including but not limited to pastoral counseling, pastoral visitation and religious services.

HopeWell Cancer Support 410-832-2719

HopeWell provides free cancer-specific and general support groups, yoga, meditation to relax and relieve stress, T'ai Chi, power hour fitness and educational series. All support services are offered in a residential setting not far from GBMC.

Look Good Feel Better 443-849-2037

The "Look Good, Feel Better®" program from the American Cancer Society (ACS) helps women undergoing cancer treatment cope with appearance-related side effects of treatment. In addition, the ACS's Patient Resource Navigator at GBMC helps patients and caregivers find resources that help them cope with their illness. The focus is to help women undergoing cancer treatments to regain a sense of self confidence and to cope with appearance related side effects of treatment, including hair loss and changes in complexion and fingernails.

Patient/Family Head & Neck Center Support Group 443-849-2087

GBMC's free support group is composed of newly diagnosed and long-time survivors of head and neck cancer. Family members or significant others are also encouraged to attend.

Catastrophic Health Planners (CHP) 866-853-6260 a local not-for-profit organization providing free financial and legal counseling for families facing a catastrophic health event. The organization was founded by a cancer survivor who recognized first-hand that patients and families need one organization that can address many needs.

The Ulman Fund for Young Adults with Cancer 410-964-0202

A leading voice in the young adult cancer movement, the Ulman Fund is working at a grassroots level to support, educate, connect and empower young adult cancer survivors. The UFC enhances lives by supporting, educating and connecting young adults, and their loved ones, affected by cancer.

Boutique 443-849-8700

GBMC's Boutique provides image recovery services in private rooms that enhance emotional and aesthetic needs. It carries wigs, prosthetics, clothing, corrective make-up and skin care products and offers services that include styling and make-up application techniques.

The Red Devils 877-643-0202

The Red Devils funds services to improve quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families, including services like transportation, meals, shopping, getting to a doctors appointment, and babysitting.
