Sherwood Surgical Center
Sherwood Surgical Center at GBMC opened in 1979 as Maryland's first ambulatory surgical center, named after Virginia Sherwood a founding member of GBMC. It is the primary location for outpatient surgeries and procedures. The Center houses nine operating rooms and has the capability of performing a wide variety of outpatient and inpatient procedures.
With the advances in surgical techniques, pain control and anesthesia, many less invasive procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis. Surgeries at Sherwood Surgical Center are performed on both children and adults. A majority of elective pediatric surgeries are performed here. Additionally, Sherwood provides surgical interventions for newborns from the Newborn Nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as pediatric emergencies which present through the Emergency Department.
The professionals at the Center understand that surgery of any kind can be stressful, so they'll help guide you and your family through the entire surgical process from registration to recovery.
Sherwood Surgical Center's experienced surgeons perform a variety of outpatient surgical procedures including:
- Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT)
- General Surgery
- Reconstructive Cosmetic Surgery
