Doug Smith, CFRE
Douglas G. Smith, FAHP, CFRE, has been President of the GBMC Foundation since 1997 and serves as a member of the GBMC HealthCare Executive Team.
A 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, the GBMC Foundation coordinates fundraising efforts to benefit Greater Baltimore Medical Center. The Foundation's Board of Directors and professional staff carry out fundraising events, annual appeals and capital campaigns and seek gifts from grateful patients and other friends of the hospital, as well as grants from corporations and private foundations.
Mr. Smith earned the designation of Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) in October 1987 and has been a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) for 22 years, holding several leadership positions within the organization. He has been an AHP Fellow since October 2003, and has been in the development industry for 32 years.
Mr. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Ohio University and a master’s in public management from Carnegie Mellon University. He serves as a board member of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and is an avid runner, earning a personal best time in the Boston Marathon of 2 hours 58 minutes in 1979.
Prior positions include President, Pittsburgh Mercy Foundation, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1985-1997); Executive Director, LDS Hospital-Deseret Foundation in Salt Lake City, Utah (1980-1985) and Director of annual gifts at Utah State University in Logan, Utah (1974-1980).
