Physicians specializing in allergy and immunology diagnose and treat disorders of the immune system, including asthma and allergies. There are a number of allergists who are members of the division. The member of the division with an office on campus is Dr. Alvin Sanico, MD, Director of the Asthma Sinus Allergy Program (ASAP) at GBMC.
The Asthma Sinus Allergy Program (ASAP) is a state-of-the-art center that satisfies the need for efficient evaluation and effective treatment of asthma, sinus and allergy problems, with significant emphasis on patient education. ASAP is an integral component of the Otolaryngology Center of Excellence, offering comprehensive treatment and management of nasal, sinus and lower airway diseases. With a coordinated and comprehensive approach, ASAP provides diagnostic testing such as needle-free allergy testing, spirometry and nasal endoscopy, all of which can be accomplished during the initial visit. Examinations by an ear, nose and throat specialist and sinus CT scans can be performed onsite within the same day as a convenience to the patient. A complimentary Internet café is available onsite to patients who are waiting for allergy skin test results or after receiving allergy shots. Important information about the patient's condition and its treatment is provided using multimedia in a patient education room.
