The Department of Obstetrics at GBMC ranks as one of the busiest labor and delivery units in Maryland. At GBMC, maternal newborn services are based on family-centered care. The recently renovated Labor and Delivery unit has 17 spacious birthing rooms. Upgrades include family work stations with internet connection near patient bedsides, reconfigured room layout for improved convenience, new flooring, cabinetry, wall finishes and lighting.
For women needing close monitoring during pregnancy, the 12-bed Mangione High Risk OB unit, adjacent to the delivery suite, provides specialized maternal-fetal care. It's one of the only in the region that consolidates all prenatal services, inpatient care, and antepartum testing in one location to promote a seamless continuum of care.
GBMC also offers a Level III-B Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) staffed by board-certified pediatricians and neonatal nurse practitioners to care for the tiniest patients. The Division of Neonatology is a participant in the Vermont Oxford Neonatal Network.

Dr. Weitz is board-certified in obstetrics & gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine. She received her medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University, completed her residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics and a fellowship in Material-Fetal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Medical Director, Harvey Institute for Human Genetics
Dr. Blagowidow is board-certified in both clinical genetics and clinical cytogenetics. She is also a Founding Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics. Dr. Blagowidow's clinical specialties include assessment of pregnancy by ultrasound including Doppler flow and 3D imaging and by invasive testing including CVS and amniocentesis.
