Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The Office of Continuing Medical Education at GBMC coordinates CME activities within the scope of our CME mission statement, maintains a database of accrued AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM, and provides credit transcripts once a year to members of the GBMC medical staff. Weekly, monthly and one-time only activities are planned for the education of practicing physicians and allied health professionals in the Baltimore-region and surrounding areas.  Although programs are targeted to physicians, multi-disciplinary attendance is encouraged.

Our office is dedicated to providing state-of-the art programs that support the Medical Center's and physicians' efforts to enhance competence in patient care; expand medical knowledge; improve interpersonal and communication skills and system-based practices to the benefit of the patients.
GBMC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Our CME Team

  • GBMC hosts Schwartz Center Rounds, unique, multi-disciplinary sessions in which hospital staff explore the emotional side of caregiving.  A national program with sites across the country, Schwartz Center Rounds are supported in part by the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, a Boston-based nonprofit dedicated to advancing compassionate healthcare.

In a typical Rounds session, caregivers present  a patient case that brought up interesting and important psychosocial issues. Our staff then share their own thoughts and feelings related to the topic being presented.  Unlike grand rounds, these sessions are not about problem solving, but rather about exploring and processing the emotions that come up in the daily work of hospital staff.  A comprehensive study of Schwartz Center Rounds has shown them to help caregivers connect better with patients emotionally; enhance their understanding of the effects of illness on patients and their families; improve communication among caregivers and decrease feelings of caregiver isolation and stress.

Schwartz Center Rounds are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month except for January, July August.  For more information about Schwartz Center Rounds, visit www.schwartzcenter.org.
