Cynthia Fager, a Baltimore resident with over 20 years of experience in social services, human resources, volunteer management and hospice care, became Director of Volunteer Services in September of 2010. A member of the Maryland Healthcare Directors of Volunteer Services, Ms. Fager is responsible for managing one of the largest groups of healthcare volunteers in Maryland. She supervises the fund-raising components of the gift shop, the Nearly New sale and the vendor sales, and also serves as organization liaison to the Volunteer Auxiliary Board.
Ms. Fager served as the Volunteer Services Coordinator for The Washington Home and Community Hospices. She has worked as an English tutor in Tel Aviv, Israel; in multiple management positions with Macy's; as an English school program developer in Nagoya, Japan; as a supervisor with the Baltimore County Occupational Training Administration; and as an adolescent and crisis counselor with agencies in Minnesota, Colorado, and Maryland.
Cynthia enjoys working with GBMC's wonderful volunteers to support the hospital's mission of providing medical care and service of the highest quality to each patient leading to health, healing and hope.
Lieta Manistre became Assistant Director of Volunteer Services in September of 2011. She is responsible for the student volunteer programs, volunteer training, volunteer craft initiatives, and data collection and analysis. Lieta began her service to GBMC as a volunteer in 2009, volunteering within Wound Care, the Lymphedema Rehabilitation Center and Volunteer Services.
Lieta brings over 20 years of experience in Information Technology and Operations management within the Life Insurance industry in Canada and the United States. In these roles she has supported process improvement, document management, policy administration and corporate functions. She has developed and delivered training and best practices for IT professionals in quality assurance and project management. As a parent, Lieta has also volunteered within schools and scouting.
Patty Leaverton started volunteering at the GBMC Cancer Infusion Center in May of 2012. She recently joined the GBMC Volunteer Services staff as The Corner Shop Manager. Patty is responsible for purchasing, merchandising, staffing, and administrative functions associated with the shop. Patty also supervises many GBMC volunteers who share their time and expertise in assisting with sales and customer transactions.
Patty lives in Hunt Valley and brings over 30 years of advertising, retail and entrepreneurial experience to the position. Her strong retail background includes merchandise buying, operations management, and district management experience, overseeing seventeen stores and one hundred seventy sales associates in a three state region. Prior to managing the hospital’s premier gift shop, Patty was a partner in a full service video production company and owned Disc Jockey Enterprises Inc. Hunt Valley, MD.
Patty looks forward to providing excellent customer service, a 22 year tradition at the GBMC Corner Shop and believes by expanding merchandise choices there will be tremendous opportunities for growth.
Karleen Lombard joined the Volunteer Services team in January 2012 as our Administrative Coordinator. She is responsible for the administrative management of the office. She also oversees our Special Helpers Team coordinating the volunteers who help with one-time special projects throughout the hospital.
Karleen has 20 years of non-profit experience coordinating volunteers for the American Red Cross and most recently the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut. When asked why she pursued a career working with volunteers, Karleen said, “I find the rewards of being with people who are motivated to serve is the most inspiring way to spend my days!”
