Surgical services and Invasive procedures within the Perioperative Division provide nursing care to patients undergoing a variety of both operative and diagnostic procedures.

Sherwood Surgery Center (PPE) has 7 operating rooms and 1 local treatment room. The primary focus is pediatric ear, nose and throat surgery, hand, podiatry, and other general surgeries requiring same day care and discharge within 23 hours.

Women's Surgical Center (PPW) has 6 surgical suites and primarily devotes care to female patients requiring assessment and interventions generally associated with diseases related to breast disease, gynecological or fertility issues.

Kroh Center for Digestive Disorders (PPE) has 6 rooms and provides care to   patients requiring diagnostic and screening services related to gastro-intestinal and motility disorders.

Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL) is a single suite that primarily provides care to the patient requiring diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases.

Endovascular Lab (EV)
provides care to patients who require elective or immediate assessment and intervention for circulatory/vascular diseases.

Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) has both a Phase 1 and Phase 2 step-down area for patient care prior to discharge.  In Phase 1 patients are provided nursing care immediately after their procedure when they require airway management, pain control, continuous cardiac monitoring, and assessment every 15 minutes post intervention for the first hour.  Phase 2 care is required for patients who will be discharged to home from the unit.

GBMC's surgical/invasive services focuses on both adult and pediatric surgical/diagnostic care and treatment, and is staffed by registered nurses, surgical technicians, registered nurse first assistants, board certified anesthesiologists and surgeons.  With 41 diagnostic/operative suites, the combined areas will care for approximately 37,000 adult and pediatric patients.

Patients are seen pre-operatively for assessment and teaching, monitored intra-operatively and post-operatively for evaluation.  Patients are predominantly transferred post-operatively to the Post Anesthesia Care unit, prior to discharge, however they can also be transferred to the NICU, MICU and/or the SICU units.

Admissions to any of the multiple operating/procedural areas may range from an elective routine surgery or diagnostic procedure up to and including the need to intercede in emergent and/or emergencies requiring multi-systems intervention.
