GBMC's newly renovated Nature Trail was unveiled in the fall of 2004 during a special dedication ceremony in memory of former GBMC board member, Cornelia R. Levering. Mrs. Levering, also a board member of the Hospital for Women of Maryland of Baltimore City, was a founder of GBMC and deeply committed throughout her life to both the hospital and environmental conservation.
Thanks to a generous donation of $38,000 from the endowment of the Hospital for the Women of Maryland of Baltimore City, the mile-long trail, which winds through the wooded GBMC campus, serves as a source of serenity and comfort to patients, families, and staff. With the assistance of the Irvine Nature Center, various species of plants and trees are clearly marked with signs along the trail, and new and refurbished picnic tables and benches line the crushed stone pathway. GBMC's Volunteer Auxiliary originally contributed $100,000 to create the trail back in the 1980's.
