Your First Appointment with Hyperbaric Medicine

A consultation will take place with the hyperbaric physician, and the treatment process will be explained to you. You will have an education session with the hyperbaric nurse who will instruct you on how to prepare for treatment. An education packet will also be provided.

What you need to bring for your appointment:

  • Insurance cards
  • List of medications

What will happen once you arrive?
After an initial consultation and examination at the Center, you will be ready to begin your treatment. When you arrive, you will receive complete instructions regarding your treatment.  Before starting, you will change into a 100-percent cotton garment provided by the Center. For safety reasons, no other clothing may be worn inside the hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment chamber.

For safety reasons, there are certain items not allowed inside the hyperbaric chamber. Please do not wear or bring the following into the chamber during your treatment:

  • Makeup 
  • Perfume
  • Aftershave
  • Hairspray / hair oils
  • Wigs / hairpieces
  • Nail polish
  • Alcohol or petroleum-based products
  • Cell phones / pagers
  • Metallic items (such as jewelry, titanium frame eyeglasses, keys, watches, coins)
  • Flammable materials or heat-producing items (heating pad, lighters, cigarettes)
  • Hearing aids
  • Food, gum or candy
