Greater Geriatric Physician Group - Senior Services

The GBMC Greater Geriatric Physician Group is composed of physicians and nurse practitioners practicing geriatric medicine that work within the hospital, community, and outpatient practice and in a number of area facilities. Our physicians hold medical directorships at 14 facilities and attending physician positions at 20 facilities.

 W. Anthony Riley, MD

W. Anthony Riley, MD, Medical Director Senior Services and Gilchrist Hospice Care

  • MD graduate from the University of Pennsylvania
  • Research Fellowship, University of Maryland
  • Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is certified as a Diplomat with added qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Riley is a Certified Medical Director and in 2000 received his certification with the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. 
  • Dr. Riley is the Medical Director of Gilchrist Hospice Care and the Medical Director of Senior Services at GBMC. Baltimore Magazine named Dr. Riley as Top Geriatric Doctor. He joined the medical staff of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in 1983.
 Mel Daly, MD

Mel P. Daly MD, CMD, AGSF, Medical Director Subacute Unit

  • MD University of Dublin, Trinity College
  • Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine, University of Maryland and University Hospital of South Manchester, England
  • Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society and a Certified Medical Director
  • Holds an academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
  • Dr. Daly joined the GBMC medical staff in 1998. He is the Director of the Subacute unit. He also serves as Medical Director at several retirement communities and long-term care facilities throughout Baltimore County. He has received the "Geriatric Recognition Award from the American Geriatric Society and was voted one of Baltimore's "Top 50 Doctors" by the Baltimore Sun.
 Aaron Charles, MD

Aaron J. Charles, MD, Medical Director ACE Unit

  • MD Tulane University School of Medicine
  • Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Bayview. Served in the US Peace Cops in Tanzania
  • He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Dr. Charles has served on the GBMC and Gilchrist Hospice medical staff since 2000. He sees patients at Gilchrist Hospice Care, the GBMC subacute unit and inpatient units as well as long term and sub acute care facilities in the area.
Jason Black, MD   Jason W. Black, MD
  • MD from the University of California Davis, School of Medicine
  • Geriatric fellowships at Johns Hopkins University
  • Certified by the American Board of Family Practice and a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics
  • Since 2004, he has been a member of the medical staff at Gilchrist Hospice and GBMC.  He provides medical care to in-patients at GBMC, in the office located at GBMC and at several local long-term care facilities.
  • Dr. Black holds two Medical Directorships at area nursing facilities.
 Kendall Faulkner, MD

  • Dr. Faulkner has served as an Assistant Medical Director of Gilchrist Hospice Care since 2005. She now works administratively with Gilchrist Hospice.
 Danielle Doberman, MD

Danielle Doberman, MD - Medical Director Palliative Care *

  • Dr. Danielle J. Doberman completed her medical school training at George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2000, and stayed on to complete a residency in Primary Care-based Internal Medicine.
  • Following a year as Chief Resident, she completed George Washington's fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Seeking to broaden her interests in the unique needs of older adults at the end-of-life, Dr. Doberman undertook and completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
  • She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice & Palliative Medicine, and Geriatrics. She also has interests in pain management and medical education.
  • Dr. Doberman serves as Medical Director of the Palliative Medicine Program at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, and as Assistant Medical Director at Gilchrist Hospice Care and the Gilchrist Center.
 Rebecca Elon, MD

  • Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine
  • Board Certified in Internal, Geriatric, Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Holds an academic appointment of Associate Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
  • Dr. Elon is the Medical Director and attending physician at Lorien Columbia Health Care Center, sees Geriatric patients and is working to integrate new facilities with Gilchrist Hospice Care.

  • Anne Obi received her MS Health Care Administration degree from Towson University and her MS Family Nurse Practitioner from Vanderbilt University. 
  • Anne has been providing healthcare since 1982. She sees patients in long term and subacute facilities throughout the community.

  • Sue Anthony received her BSN from Towson University, and MS Gerontological Nurse Practitioner from the University of Maryland in 1996.
  • Sue provides care in several long term, assisted living and subacute facilities.

  • Paula Kowalewski received her BSN Towson University and MS from University of Maryland.
  • Paula is a certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in Geriatrics, and provides care to patents in assisted living facilities.

  • Amy Wagner received her BSN in 1995 from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and MSN (Adult Nurse Practitioner) from Northern Kentucky University in 1999.
  • Amy sees patients in the Greater Geriatrics Group Practice, ACE Unit, Sub-Acute Unit, and in geriatric consultation throughout the hospital.

  • Michaeline, a certified Nurse Practitioner in Geriatrics, sees outpatients at GBMC, sub-acute patients at GBMC, and in extended care facilities.

  • Melissa received her BS and MSN from the University of Maryland, and is certified in Hospice and Palliative Care.
  • Melissa is experienced in symptom management and understands the needs of those with advanced chronic illnesses.
 Carla Jackson, LCSW-C

Carla Jackson -  LCSW-C  *

  • Carla received her MSW from the University of Kentucky in 1998.
  • Carla earned a post-masters certificate in End of Life Care from Smith College. Prior to Palliative Medicine, she worked in Hospice Care for eight years, specializing in bereavement. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Maryland School of Social Work teaching a course on Death, Dying and Bereavement to graduate social work students.
