Updated 9/14/11 - GBMC Pediatric Group Influenza Vaccine Information
(practice patients only)

**2011-2012 Influenza Season:  We are now scheduling our flu vaccine clinics.  Flu shots will be given out by appointment only.  Please call us to schedule your child.  If your child has an upcoming well child visit in the months of September and October, they may receive their vaccines during that visit.

The Vaccines  The influenza vaccines for the 2011-2012 season are unchanged from 2010-2012.  Influenza vaccine is recommended for all children ages 6 months and above.  As in the past, children who have never been vaccinated before, should receive 2 doses, separated by 1 month, in their first season.  However, since the vaccine is unchanged from last year, If your child received only one dose of last year's vaccine, they will require only one dose this year, per CDC recommendations.

The flu vaccine comes in 2 forms - injectable ("the shot") and intranasal ("the spray").  Healthy children ages 2 and above may receive either form.  Children under 2 and those with certain medical conditions (i.e. asthma, weakened immune system) or those living with family members who have weakened immune systems should not receive the intranasal form of either vaccine.
