Women's Health at GBMC
Caring for Women Throughout the Journey of Life

GBMC is dedicated to providing women with an integrated full continuum of medically sophisticated, personalized gender-based care.

Our goal is to improve and maintain the quality of life for women in our community through wellness, healing and hope in a respectful and safe environment.

GBMC has a long tradition of caring for women that began in 1822 when one of GBMC's parent hospitals, The Hospital for the Women of Maryland in Baltimore City opened as the second women's hospital in the country. That tradition continues today through a comprehensive offering of women's health services.

  • GBMC is consistently ranked among the top hospitals in Central Maryland for births and leads the Baltimore Metro Area in number of deliveries. For seven consecutive years (2002-2008) the readers of Maryland Family Magazine have named GBMC the "Best Maternity Hospital".

  • GBMC is the only Maryland hospital with three fellowship-trained uro-gynecologists treating urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapse conditions.

  • The Department of Gynecology is a regional leader in laparoscopic surgery and was one of the first in Maryland to perform these surgeries.

  • Minimally invasive surgery is available for hysterectomy, tubal ligation, endometrial ablation, and urinary incontinence procedures. Whenever possible, minimally invasive surgical techniques are used for gynecologic malignances as well.

  • GBMC surgeons performed the first da Vinci  robot-assisted gynecologic surgery (2006) at a community (non-academic) hospital in the Mid-Atlantic (MD, DC, DE and VA) region.

  • GBMC has a dedicated inpatient unit for the comfort of GYN patients.
