GBMC Vice President Named To Statewide Health Information Exchange Advisory Board
Oct 05, 2009
BALTIMORE, Md. – October 5, 2009 – A member of the executive team at Greater Baltimore Medical Center with two decades of experience in healthcare industry information systems has been selected to serve on the advisory for Maryland’s statewide health information exchange.

Tressa Springmann, vice president and chief information officer for GBMC, will serve on the Exchange Technology Committee of the Chesapeake Regional Information Systems for our Patients (www.crisphealth.org). “I’m looking forward to adding my knowledge and experience to the committee’s efforts to build a statewide electronic health information exchange program,” said Springmann, a resident of Glenwood (Howard County) and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) who was worked at GBMC since December 1999.

At GBMC, Springmann's responsibilities include strategic oversight of all information systems and telecommunications for GBMC hospital, Gilchrist Hospice Care and Greater Baltimore Medical Associates.

CRISP is Maryland’s statewide health information exchange (HIE) program. The Maryland Health Care Commission issued an award to CRISP in 2008 to develop a plan for the implementation of a consumer-centric private and secure health information exchange where the patient controls the flow of their information. Initial funding will be accrued through hospital reimbursement rate adjustments and used over the next two to five years to build the HIE. When implemented, the HIE will allow a patient’s clinical information to move electronically among disparate health information systems to deliver the right health information to the right place at the right time anywhere in Maryland, providing safer, more timely, efficient, effective and equitable patient-centered care. For example, a patient’s discharge summary from a hospital visit could be securely and electronically delivered to his or her primary care physician. Combined with the widespread adoption of electronic medical records by hospitals and physicians, HIE is one of the two critical components to building a truly integrated, 21st-century healthcare delivery system.
