You have just a couple more months to go before your big day arrives. To make your immediate post-surgery lifestyle a little easier, go ahead and start stocking up on some of the things you'll need in order to get through those first few weeks.

Here is a list of items to have on hand for after your weight loss surgery:

  • Multivitamins - for the first two months, spring for chewable or liquid vitamins. You can opt for a tablet multivitamin at around three months after surgery. Examples include: One-A-Day Multivitamin (for age group), Centrum Multivitamin (for age group), Children's chewable - 2x adult dosage, Bariatric Advantage Chewable.
  • Calcium - chewable or liquid calcium citrate with Vitamin D (400-800 IU). Remember - DO NOT take calcium and iron at the same time. If your doctor advises you to take an iron supplement as well, allow for at least two hours in between.
  • Clear liquids such as water, decaffeinated tea and coffee, herbal tea, broth or bouillon, sugar-free gelatin, sugar-free fruit popsicles, Pedialyte or Pedialyte popsicles, Crystal Light, Vitamin Water, Fruit2O, Propel.
  • Full liquids such as protein shakes, low-fat cream soups, Carnation Instant Breakfast, sugar-free Swiss Miss hot cocoa (Milk and yogurt are also full fluids, but you'll have to purchase these a little closer to when you can use them since they will spoil!).
