Greater Baltimore Medical Center Prostate Cancer Screening

The Prostate Cancer Education Council recommends that men 40 years of age and over should talk with their health care professionals about prostate screening.  Men who are at high risk for developing prostate cancer include African American men who have the highest incidence of prostate cancer in the world, and men who have a history of prostate cancer in a close family member.  These men should think about beginning screening for prostate cancer at a younger age. The Prostate Cancer Education Council recommends these men begin screenings at 35.

The Greater Baltimore Medical Center's Prostate Cancer Screening Program is the area's most comprehensive, and is co-sponsored by the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute at GBMC and the Division of Urology.  The prostate cancer screening consists of a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and a digital rectal exam of the prostate gland.

The screenings are held in the main hospital building in Radiation Oncology from 5:30 - 6:30 PM on periodic Tuesday evenings throughout the year.  Following each screening, results are sent to the screening participant as well as to his primary care physician.

All of the screenings $15 and an appointment is required (443-849-3080).
