Oncology Services at GBMC has been committed to providing the community with superior resources and treatment options since 1990 and is Maryland’s largest community hospital-based cancer program. The Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute at GBMC is nationally and locally recognized for its outstanding care and service, with recent recognitions including its ranking among the top 50 cancer programs in the United States in the 2006 U.S.News & World Report “America’s Best Hospitals” listing. GBMC’s oncology services also ranked in this Top 50 listing in 1999, 2001 and 2005; received a Three-Year Approval with Commendation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (2006); and was cited by Baltimore Magazine’s 2006 “Best Medicine – The Region’s Top Specialty Medical Centers” in two oncology categories: Cancer (General) and Cancer (Breast).
Innovative approaches to cancer care are provided by the Lois Harvey Miller Infusion Therapy Center; Milton J. Dance, Jr., Head & Neck Rehabilitation Center; Sandra and Malcolm Berman Comprehensive Breast Care Center; Sheila K. Riggs Radiation Oncology Center; The Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute at GBMC; and Joseph F. Keelty Inpatient Oncology Care Unit. In addition, patients have access to the latest technology and treatment options through the clinical research program. More than 60 clinical trials are available at any one time, enabling physicians to match patients to state-of-the-art protocols in cancer prevention, treatment and symptom management. The Boutique specializes in services, clothing and accessories to meet the individual needs of women diagnosed with cancer.
New in the GBMC Comprehensive Breast Care Center is the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Program. This groundbreaking program incorporates the latest computer risk assessment tools to provide women at higher risk for developing breast cancer with a comprehensive, objective assessment of their actual chances of developing the disease.
