Internal Medicine Residency Program
The Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) has been fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education since 1965, the year that GBMC was founded.
Successful completion of our three-year categorical primary care program in internal medicine qualifies and prepares the physician to take the certification examination of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
The preliminary track in internal medicine is designed to give the physician a superb foundation in general internal medicine prior to entering a specialty field.
The Internal Medicine Residency Program at GBMC offers a high quality work environment at a leading community hospital. Our core faculty, from various distinguished backgrounds, are unified by their commitment to teaching and their devotion to the residency program. Our graduates have successfully obtained highly competitive fellowships and we boast a three-year ABIM passrate of 95%. We are proud to be strongly affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. Our categorcal residents rotate on the Neurology service at Johns Hopkins Hospital and have ready access to other clinical and research rotations there. Johns Hopkins medical students frequently rotate on our medical teams. This affiliation was recently expanded with the new medical direction of cardiovascular services by Johns Hopkins at GBMC. GBMC/JHU Press Release.
GBMC was once again ranked in the US News & World Report "America's Best Hospitals" listing. Only three percent of the country's hospitals were recognized, so we are obviously very proud to be included in the list! This year, GBMC was recognized as one of the top 50 hospitals in the United States for ear, nose and throat (Otolaryngology) services.
