Maryland has been called "America in Miniature" and offers a varied spectrum ranging from "pleasant living" of the Chesapeake Bay and ocean resorts to the rural, forested, mountain areas of Western Maryland. The Chesapeake Bay includes over 400 miles of coastline and is a popular area for boating, water-skiing, swimming, fishing and crabbing. The Atlantic Ocean Beaches of Maryland vary in their offerings from year round luxury resorts to untainted coastline with family oriented cottages. Western Maryland offers primeval forests, natural waterfalls, canoeing in peaceful streams or rapids, a large body of water known as Deep Creek Lake, and mountainous elevations up to 4000 feet affording excellent skiing.
Maryland also offers a number of interesting towns and small cities including Annapolis, its capital rich in colonial heritage and lore, and several unique Eastern Shore Villages which have not changed appreciably since their inception prior to the American Revolution.
In addition, the many cultural attributes of the Nation's Capital are within an hour's drive.
