Department of Gynecology
Administrative Assistant - Carolyn Brice

The Gynecology Department has over 70 active and practicing physicians, many of whom also perform obstetrical services. Surgically, the Gynecology service is the busiest in Maryland with over 6000 inpatient and outpatient surgical cases in 2002, representing 14% of all Gynecologic surgery in Maryland. The inpatient service has 24 beds (all single rooms) in a recently renovated area on the 4th floor of GBMC, Unit 46. Ambulatory surgery is mostly performed in the Physicians Pavilion West operating suite of 6 rooms, and major surgery in the general operating room. The range of surgeries includes modern minimally invasive techniques for hysterectomy, bladder repairs, and urinary incontinence.
GBMC actively supports residency training and there are 6 residents on the Gynecology service throughout the year. Additionally there are fellows in subspecialty training in the Division of Urogynecology/Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery.
There is an ambulatory Clinic area supporting minor procedures such as Colposcopy, LEEP. Cystoscopy, Urodynamics, and Hysteroscopy. The DEXA lunar bone density scanner is located in the Clinic area. GBMC training features include a laparoscopic training lab and teleconferencing for surgical procedures or conferences.
