GBMC Announces Updates To Its Medical Staff

BALTIMORE – October 21, 2005 – Greater Baltimore Medical Center announces the following updates to its medical staff of nearly 1,200 credentialed physicians.

Clair A. Francomano, M.D. of Roland Park has been named director of adult genetics at GBMC’s Harvey Institute for Human Genetics. Dr. Francomano graduated magna cum laude from Yale University and earned her medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she also completed her medicine residency and a fellowship in medical genetics. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Medical Genetics in both clinical genetics and clinical molecular genetics.

Dr. Francomano comes to GBMC from the National Institute on Aging, where she was chief of the Human Genetics and Integrative Medicine Section, Laboratory of Genetics. Prior to this she served as chief, Medical Genetics Branch, and clinical director of the National Human Genome Research Institute. Dr. Francomano’s clinical interests center around the diagnosis and management of skeletal dysplasias, and hereditary connective tissue disorders such as Stickler, Marfan, and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes. 

Kendall R. Faulkner, M.D. of Mount Washington has been affiliated with GBMC since 1997, most recently providing care for patients at area retirement facilities.  Dr. Faulkner assumes a new position with GBMC’s geriatrics practice, where she will be working at several local nursing homes and at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. Board certified in internal medicine with extensive experience in geriatrics and hospice medicine, Dr. Faulkner graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center. 

Gino M. Freeman, M.D., M.B.A., of Baltimore, joins the practice of Dr. Neal Friedlander and Dr. Daniel Levy, which specializes in caring for adults on a long-term basis with an emphasis on an individual's participation in their care through exercise, diet and other preventive measures.  Dr. Freeman graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He also earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business.  Dr. Freeman’s interests are in geriatric medicine, sports medicine, and practice management.

David J. Riedel, M.D. of Towson is working with the Greater Baltimore Medical Associates faculty practice and residency program.  Dr. Riedel’s focus is on both internal medicine and infectious diseases, especially HIV/AIDS in the international setting.   He graduated from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, from Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and completed a residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. 

Craig D. Singer, M.D. splits his time between clinical duties as a hospitalist and as the physician liaison for management information systems, where his role is to facilitate communications between the hospital’s technical/computer staff and physicians.  Dr. Singer is board certified in internal medicine, is a graduate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine and completed the Johns Hopkins/Sinai Hospital internal medicine residency program.  Dr. Singer, a Mount Vernon resident, also holds advanced degrees in computer science and business from Duke University.  

Robin Mae Motter-Mast, D.O. of Cockeysville has joined the GBMC-owned Hunt Valley practice of Mark Lamos and Associates.  Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Motter graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed an osteopathic internship at Delaware County Memorial Hospital/Crozer Chester Medical Center, and completed a residency in family medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System. Dr. Motter focuses on preventative and holistic patient care, and her major research interests include the effects of various hormones on premenstrual syndrome, stress fractures in female athletes, and use of stress-reducing techniques to lower risks of hypertension.

GBMC at Eastpoint

GBMC is expanding its satellite facility in Eastpoint Mall on Baltimore County's east side with the addition of Dr. Sylvia Chang, a family practice physician.  Dr. Chang, a resident of Timonium, is board certified in family medicine and has experience practicing primary care medicine both in inner city and rural settings.  Dr. Chang completed medical school at the University of Pittsburgh and a family practice residency at Pittsburgh’s St. Margaret Hospital.  She has also practiced at a hospital in rural Iowa, where she served as chief of the medical staff. 

George N. Karkar, M.D., F.A.C.P, board certified in internal medicine, and Kamal Alexander Hamod, M.D., M.P.H, an OB/GYN with a special interest in minimally invasive surgeries and vulvar diseases, vulvar pain and dyspareunia, also practice at GBMC at Eastpoint.
