Sushi Is Flying Off Shelves at GBMC’s New Café
Gone Are The “Old Days” Of Traditional Hospital Fare

BALTIMORE – October 28, 2005 – Sushi is flying off the shelves at Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s newly expanded café, an ultra modern eatery that is setting new standards in hospital dining. At nearly 4,000 square-feet, the new café is almost twice the size of the hospital’s original servery, which had largely been unchanged since GBMC opened in 1965.

We are thrilled to open this new cafeteria which is essential in the healthcare delivery process,” said Matthew Tresansky, ARAMARK Healthcare Management Services’ food and nutrition services director for GBMC.  “Our research-based approach to customized retail dining has led us to create a diverse menu and unique ambiance which will have a positive impact on employee, visitor and patient satisfaction.”

A grand-opening celebration on November 1, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., featuring servers dressed in black and white and hand-passing food samples, will mark the official opening of the café, which has been serving customers for about two weeks.

The fresh sushi prepared daily by chefs dressed in authentic garb has proven quite popular with employees, physicians and visitors, Tresansky said.  Patrons of GBMC’s café can also enjoy items from various stations, including “Sizzle” (hot grill); “Stuffed” (deli); “Home” (breakfast and lunch entrée selections); “Sautee” (daily made to order dishes consisting of a protein and vegetable); “Simmer” (soup); and “Crisp” (salads and fruit); and can enjoy a beverage at “Splash.”

In addition to an expanded menu, the new café also accepts credit and debit cards.
