GBMC Names Hospitality & Healthcare Veteran As
Food & Nutrition Services Director

Owings Mills Resident Will Supervise Food and Nutrition Program;
New Café Will Include Sushi Chefs

BALTIMORE – July 18, 2005 – Matthew J. Tresansky, a veteran of more than 30 years in the food service industry, including nearly two decades in healthcare positions, has been named director of food and nutrition services at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.  Tresansky will  oversee operations of the hospital’s food and nutrition program, including the opening in late August of GBMC’s new  café, which will feature international cuisine and authentic sushi chefs during lunch.

“The food service industry is a fast-paced environment with a focus on people and customer service and I look forward to continuing to develop and enhance the food and nutrition program at GBMC,” Tresansky said.

ARAMARK Healthcare Management Services is the vendor for GBMC’s food and nutrition program, and Tresansky transferred from the Midwest where he managed food and nutrition programs at several ARAMARK contracted facilities.   “I enjoy all that Maryland has to offer – especially the Chesapeake Bay and proximity to the ocean – and was long aware of GBMC’s solid reputation in the marketplace and its focus on service excellence and customer service,” said Tresansky, formerly of Southern Maryland.

GBMC’s new  café will have a contemporary, spacious appearance featuring new and exciting menu choices for employees, physicians and visitors.  “Gone are the ‘old days’ of only offering traditional hospital fare,” said Tresansky.  Features in the new facility include World Station, offering diverse entrees from various international regions; Sauté Station, offering daily made-to-order dishes comprised of a protein and vegetable; and Sushi Station, where authentic sushi chefs will prepare fresh-made sushi.  The new café will also accept credit cards.

Tresansky also has directed food and nutrition programs at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Mich., Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., and Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.  He earned a bachelor of arts in history from Christian Brothers University and resides in Owings Mills, Md.

GBMC includes Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC), Central Maryland’s leading community hospital; Hospice of Baltimore, which provides comfort and care to patients with life-limiting illnesses; the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Community Health Center, which offers comprehensive health and family services to the residents of East Baltimore; and the GBMC Foundation, which supports the GBMC mission by managing fundraising efforts.  The 300-bed Medical Center, located on a beautiful suburban campus, serves nearly 22,000 inpatients annually as well as providing approximately 50,000 emergency room visits.
