GBMC Names New Nursing Unit Managers
BALTIMORE – September 29, 2005 – Greater Baltimore Medical Center announces the addition of new clinical nursing managers for several patient units. Nurse managers are responsible for staffing issues and daily operations of their unit.
Sally Dawn Bashaar, RN, of Towson, was named clinical nurse manager of the post anesthesia care unit. A nursing veteran of 35 years, Bashaar has held nursing positions at several other hospitals in Maryland and New York and with private practice physicians in New York. She holds an associate’s degree in nursing from Mohawk Valley Community College (Utica, N.Y.) and a bachelor’s degree in management leadership from The Johns Hopkins University. Bashaar is a certified post anesthesia nurse by the American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification and is a member of the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses and the Chesapeake Bay Society of Perianesthesia Nurses.
A healthcare veteran of 12 years, Linda Custis, RN, BSN, of Pikesville, was named clinical nurse manager of GBMC’s medical/psychiatric unit. Custis received an associate’s degree in nursing from Baltimore City Community College and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing.
Dawn Smith-Walsh, RN, BSN, of Hunt Valley, a former clinical partner in labor and delivery at GBMC, has been named clinical manager of the hospital’s newborn nursery. In addition to managing the nursery, she is responsible for GBMC’s retail store, the Lactation Station, which addresses needs of the “nursing” family. Smith-Walsh has more than a decade of nursing experience, nine of which are in maternal newborn health, and has worked as both a staff nurse and nurse manager. Smith-Walsh holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. and an associate’s degree in applied science from Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in New York, N.Y.
