GBMC Makes Two Appointments To Executive Management Team
BALTIMORE, Md. – September 7, 2006 – Greater Baltimore Medical Center has added two experienced professionals to its executive management team.
George Bayless, CPA, a veteran of more than 20 years of corporate financial experience in the public accounting and healthcare industries, has been named vice president of finance. Steven K. Twaddle, FACMPE, a 16-year veteran of healthcare management, has joined the organization as vice president of Greater Baltimore Medical Associates (GBMA), an employed physician enterprise.
Bayless is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of accounting systems that provide for control of the profit and non-profit entities of the GBMC health system. He will also be responsible for system-wide financial planning and the annual operating and capital budget process.
Previously, Bayless served as senior director of corporate internal audit and chief audit executive at the University of Maryland Medical System. He was also the chief financial officer of two UMMS hospitals and an audit senior manager with KPMG-Peat Marwick.
Bayless earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Baltimore and is a licensed certified public accountant in the state of Maryland. Bayless is secretary of the Maryland chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and also holds memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Internal Auditors.
A resident of Ellicott City, Bayless serves as treasurer of Capital Region CSB Ministries, Inc. He has been an adjunct faculty member of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, a preceptor with the Public Health Administrative Residency Program at Johns Hopkins University, and a past board member of the American Cancer Society.
Twaddle, of Towson, is responsible for all aspects of GBMA, including financial, human resources, planning, marketing, information systems, risk and governance, and for developing its strategic plans, policies, and growth strategy. He has a wealth of expertise in the areas of healthcare planning, operations, finance, capital and risk management within multi-specialty medical groups.
Prior to joining GBMC, Twaddle was principal and founder of Twaddle & Associates in Chattanooga, Tenn., a physician practice management firm specializing in working with academic medical centers, hospitals and multi-specialty medical groups. He also served as chief executive officer of Hawthorn Medical Associates in New Bedford, Mass., executive administrator of the Ochsner Clinic in Baton Rouge, La. and executive director of the Trover Clinic in Madisonville, Ky.
Twaddle earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration/computer science from the University of Cameron in Lawton, Okla., and master’s degrees from the University of Dallas in both business administration and healthcare management.
A Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives and a member of the Medical Group Management Association, Twaddle has lectured at various medical school programs including Harvard School of Public Health, University of New Orleans and University of Louisville. In addition, he served as an adjunct faculty member for the MBA program at the University of Dallas.
