GBMC Russian-Speaking OB/GYN
Opens Office In Owings Mills

BALTIMORE, Md. – May 26, 2006 – A Russian-speaking OB/GYN specialist, board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and practicing on the Greater Baltimore Medical Center campus, will soon also offer gynecologic, obstetric and cosmetic enhancement care for women from an office in Owings Mills.

“Helping bring a new life into this world is truly rewarding, as is caring for the health of women,” says Elena Dolskaya, M.D, a native of Kiev, Ukraine.  Patients of Dr. Dolskaya have the advantage of being able to communicate with the physician in their native language.  “In my experience, Russian natives generally tend to be uncomfortable with emerging technologies and often rely on folk remedies that have been passed on from generation to generation,” Dr. Dolskaya says.

Dr. Dolskaya has offices in GBMC’s Physicians Pavilion East, Suite 501.  Beginning in early June, she will also see patients two days a week at an office in McDonough Crossroads (20 Crossroads Drive, Suite 10.  Phone 410-356-0905).

In addition to OB/GYN, her areas of expertise include operative hysteroscopy, laporascopy, vaginal reconstructive surgery, fibroid management and urinary incontinence care.

“I chose GBMC because it is a leading center for women’s healthcare and the medical staff is very progressive and supportive,” says Dr. Dolskaya.  “I chose Baltimore in particular because its population is diverse and the area has the charm of a big city yet is only a short drive to the mountains or shore.”

Dr. Dolskaya, who has long held an interest in reproductive health and surgery, began her career as a midwife in Russia.  She notes that whereas medicine in America tends to be physician-centric, Russian care relies more on professionals such as nurses and midwives.

Dr. Dolskaya earned an associate’s degree in Nursing and Midwifery from Kiev Medical Uchilishche and was a midwife at Kiev Medical Hospital in the Ukraine in the late 1980s and early 1990s, before immigrating to the United States.  She then attended classes in New York, earning a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from New York University before earning her medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine.  Dr. Dolskaya completed internships and her residency at several Baltimore-area hospitals before joining GBMC.

A resident of Owings Mills, Md., Dr. Dolskaya has been a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists since 2002.  She became a United States citizen in 1998.
