GBMC Announces Nursing Promotion and Staff Updates
BALTIMORE, Md. – Decmber 11, 2006 – Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Maryland’s leading community hospital, announces the following nursing promotion and staff updates/additions.
Susan Bowen, RN, BSN, a resident of Fallston in Harford County, has been promoted to clinical director of the Labor and Delivery Department. Bowen’s scope of responsibility has been expanded to include the entire staff of advanced practitioners, nurses, technicians and other support personnel providing care to patients in the Labor and Delivery Unit, the Mangione High Risk Obstetrics Unit and Parent Education. Bowen’s experience includes more than 20 years as a registered nurse, more than 15 of which have been in GBMC’s Labor and Delivery Department. Bowen has also worked as a labor and delivery staff nurse and clinical partner. Bowen earned an Associate of Arts degree in nursing from Baltimore County Community College, Essex and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Towson (State) University.
Janis Radcliffe, RN, MSN, a resident of Bel Air in Harford County, has joined GBMC as clinical manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Radcliffe has been a staff nurse in a new mother/baby dyad and has 10 years experience as a NICU nurse and night shift charge nurse. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from East Carolina University and a Master in Science degree in nursing administration from George Mason University.
Phyllis Tyler, MT, CIC, a resident of Upper Crossroads in Harford County, recently passed the Infection Control Certification exam, earning her CIC designation. Tyler has worked at GBMC for 37 years, the last 22 years in infection control. Her responsibilities include infection surveillance and serving as liaison with the Facilities Department in performing environmental rounds and construction risk assessments to assure the safety of patients and staff during construction projects.
Karen Mackie, RN, MA, CIC, a resident of Westminster in Carroll County, has joined GBMC as infection control manager. Prior, Mackie worked as a staff infection control professional at Johns Hopkins Hospital and also managed the infection control, employee health and workers compensation programs at Northwest Hospital. Mackie has been an infection control professional for 30 years and is active on the local and national level with the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
Marilyn Foote, RN, BSN, of Lutherville in Baltimore County, has joined the Infection Control Department as an infection control practitioner. Foote performs hand hygiene and isolation audits ensuring that staff are appropriately isolating patients and washing their hands, and is also working on Team Hand Hygiene, a new awareness project. Foote, who has worked at GBMC since 1999, also is a staff nurse on the Acute Care for the Elderly Unit and has been a staff nurse in labor and delivery.
Joyce Maslyk, RN, of Lutherville in Baltimore County, has joined GBMC as administrative director of medical/surgical services, responsible for medical/surgical nursing services, rehabilitation services (PT and OT) and the surgical physician extenders. Maslyk has been a registered nurse since 1976 and in management/administration for the last 21 years. For the past 30 years, Maslyk worked at the University of Maryland Medical Center’s R. Adams Shock Trauma Center, where she served as director of patient care services for the past 10 years.
