GBMC HealthCare Names New Chairman And Two New Board Members
BALTIMORE, Md. – January 16, 2008 – Three area business leaders have assumed positions on the GBMC HealthCare, Inc. Board of Directors. GBMC HealthCare, Inc. is the parent of Greater Baltimore Medical Center, the GBMC Foundation, and Hospice of Baltimore.
Charlie Fenwick Jr., president and general manager of Valley Motors, Inc. in Cockeysville and a resident of the Butler area, has been named chairman of the GBMC HealthCare, Inc. Board of Directors for 2008. Fenwick has served on the board since April 1999.
“Being chosen chairman is a great honor and I hope I can make a worthwhile difference,” Fenwick said. “All of my children have been born at GBMC, and I have become more fond of the hospital over the years. I have experienced first-hand the excellent care and personal attention that GBMC provides to its patients.” Fenwick is one of the founders of the Land Preservation Trust, which was created to preserve farmland in Hunt Valley from development and hosts the Shawan Downs steeplechase course. Since the inception of the Legacy Chase at Shawan Downs in 2001, GBMC has been the primary beneficiary of proceeds from this event.
Douglas Huether, chairman of the Independent Can Company in Belcamp and a resident of Towson, and Marion Thompson, director of human resources for the Baltimore Aircoil Company and a resident of Columbia, have also been named to the GBMC HealthCare, Inc. Board of Directors.
"I became associated with Hospice of Baltimore and GBMC when I learned of the organization's intent to build the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care,” said Huether, who has served on the board of directors for Hospice of Baltimore since 2000. “Appreciating the need for this type of facility and understanding the value of the specialized care and services that hospice provides compelled me to become actively involved."
Thompson serves as chair of the GBMC Foundation Board of Directors, to which she was elected in June 1998 and for which she has also served as secretary and vice chair. “During my tenure on the Foundation board, I have been a patient at the hospital and have been the recipient of the exceptional care from the hospital and GBMC physicians,” Thompson said. “I look forward to continuing the work of advancing GBMC's mission to provide the highest quality care and service to the community.”
