BALTIMORE, Md. – August 3, 2007 – Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Central Maryland’s leading community hospital, announces the following nursing promotions, awards, and recognition.
Justine Kellar, RN, BSN, a 32-year GBMC employee and resident of Manchester, has been named clinical director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Progressive Care Unit. Justine oversees all unit operations and patient care provided on both the SICU and PCU, where she will supervise nursing care, interact with patients, and mentor new staff. “I enjoy working with the new graduates and seeing them grow and develop in their nursing careers,” Kellar said.
Michele Liberatore, RN, BSN, of Forest Hill, has been promoted to director of clinical documentation improvement and core measures, responsible for managing and evaluating the ongoing practice of the program and making certain that productivity goals are regularly met. Michele was previously clinical documentation specialist.
Matt Dobry, nursing student on Unit 48 (Surgery) and a resident of Hamilton in Baltimore City, was recently chosen from among 55 applicants for a nursing scholarship awarded by the Maryland Association of Healthcare Recruiters. Dobry plans to pursue a position in GBMC’s General Operating Room upon graduating from Towson University in December 2007.
Lisa Paris MA, RNC, of Westminster, and Susan PescatoreMS, RN-BC of Towson, were awarded first place for the poster they presented at the National Nursing Staff Development Organization conference. The poster, “Another Required Competency!? It can be a dream, not a nightmare!” detailed the challenges that educators face when requiring educational competencies and offered a solution for engaging staff to make learning more fun. GBMC’s recent patient mislabeling video clips featuring humor and employee actors was presented as an interesting way to deliver required learning. Paris and Pescatore are nursing education specialists at GBMC.
