GBMC Promotes Two Veteran Nurses To Key Clinical Leadership Positions
BALTIMORE, Md. – June 29, 2007 – Two nursing veterans have been promoted to new administrative leadership positions overseeing signature services at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Central Maryland’s leading community hospital.
Jody Porter, RN, BSN, MBA, CNOR, of Parkton, has been promoted to Senior Vice President - Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, where she will lead the Patient Care Services Division which encompasses all areas of inpatient nursing and hospital-wide patient care programs. Porter had served as GBMC’s Vice President of Nursing and Chief Nurse Executive since 2002, and prior served as Executive Director for Surgical Services from 2001-2002. Porter is a licensed RN in both Maryland and Pennsylvania and is certified in Perioperative Nursing.
Porter assumes responsibility for the Pharmacy, Kroh Digestive Disease Center, Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Medicine Oxygen Unit. Additional responsibilities include implementing GBMC’s plan for nursing care and participating in quality improvement programs. Porter also is responsible for managing a variety of clinical service areas, an integrated admission process, the administrative coordinators and staffing office functions.
Porter completed her basic nursing education at the West Reading Hospital and Medical Center School of Nursing and earned a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Cedar Crest College and a Master’s in Business Administration from DeSales University.
Susan Bowen, R.N. B.S.N., has been named Administrative Director of Nursing – Maternal and Newborn Health, a newly created position, and will report to Porter. Bowen, a resident of Fallston in Harford County,had previously served as clinical director of the Labor and Delivery Unit.
Bowen will have oversight of all maternal/newborn health services, including the Labor and Delivery Unit, PostPartum Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Newborn Nursery, Mangione High Risk Obstetrics Unit, Lactation Station, parent education, and doula services. GBMC is consistently ranked among the top hospitals in Central Maryland for births, averaging approximately 4,600 babies born each year.
Bowen’s experience includes more than 20 years as a registered nurse, more than 15 of which have been in GBMC’s Labor and Delivery Department. Bowen has also worked as a labor and delivery staff nurse and clinical partner. Bowen earned an Associate of Arts degree in nursing from Baltimore County Community College, Essex and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Towson (State) University.About GBMC
