CAT Scan (Computerized Axial Tomography)

A CAT Scanner is a special machine that uses a small amount of X-ray and a computer to produce pictures.  These pictures look like slices from a loaf of bread.  We can look at the face of each slice and see all of the tissues and organs inside your body.

The test requires that you lay flat for about 15 minutes.  Depending on the type of exam and what your doctor has requested, you may need to drink a "contrast fluid" to visualize your stomach and intestines.  Often an injection of an iodine dye into a vein is necessary.

The Radiologist will monitor the exam and will read the pictures.  A report will be sent to your doctor as soon as possible.
