| GBMC Parent Education Classes
Learn what experienced parents know about caring for a newborn. Gain hands-on knowledge and practice with our two session series and learn how to:
- Play, feed and bathe your baby
- Infant massage
- Identify common childhood illnesses/injuries
- Know when to call your pediatrician
- Administer medications to an infant
- Childproof your home
Register online. This course covers the same information as the Infant Care Series, but is completed in one single day. The Workshop will include the topics listed below and additional interactive learning/supervised skills practice sessions. This class is geared to build the confidence and support you will need as a new parent. Topics include: Infant growth and development, appropriate play activities, milestones for first year and safety proofing your home, infant bathing, massage, diapering and swaddling, and an overview of breastfeeding will be discussed. Suggestions for types of bottles and formula preparations and an introduction to solids and signs of food allergies will be reviewed. Signs of illness, how and when to call the pediatrician and what to expect with your new baby the first few days at home. View workshop dates and register online.
Don't let your teenager baby-sit without first attending our Select Sitters' course! Here they will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation, perform CPR, identify potential safety hazards and properly handle, care for and play with an infant or toddler. Topics include: fees, entertaining projets, appropoiate behavior and responsibility. Register online.
