| GBMC Parent Education Classes
Welcome to the "GBMC Parent Education" preparation class description page. The following classes are designed to prepare you for your upcoming birth and postpartum recovery. It is not a prerequisite to attend the Pregnancy Information class prior to attending Childbirth Education, but it is strongly encouraged. Please keep in mind, if you are registering for Childbirth Education or the Weekender class, a tour of the obstetrical area will be provided during class time. You may register in advance for any of our sixteen preparation and support classes: This course has a running time of 2.5 hours. Recommended registration for this class is anytime after your 12th week up until your 30th week of pregnancy. Early registration is recommended. This class provides an overview of pregnancy with evidence-based information for a healthy antepartum period. Topics include: Fetal growth and development, discomforts during each trimester and relief measures, prenatal care routines and rational for various tests, true vs false labor, pre-term labor signs, fetal kick counts, nutrition, travel, and exercise, and an overview of labor and delivery. A four-week series, focuses on preparing for labor and birth, taken around your 7th month allowing for 2-4 weeks between completion and your due date. Content includes: - Phases and stages of labor
- Breathing and relaxation techniques
- The role of the labor partner
- Cesarean birth
- GBMC's policies and procedures
- Postpartum recovery
- Tour of Obstetrical Area
- Classes are available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Clients pick one day and continue for four consecutive weeks.

This single class includes:- Indications for cesarean birth
- Explanation of surgical procedures and the roles of mom, her partner, physicians and nurses as a support team in the preoperative and postoperative periods
- Relaxation techniques that will help before and after a cesarean birth.
Register online! A single, free 1.5 hour class is presented by the Department of Anesthesiology to inform you about types of anesthesia/analgesia available during your labor and delivery process. The class includes a video presentation and question and answer period by a board-certified anesthesiologist. Register online!
