GBMC Parent Education Classes and Services
Obstetrical tours are available on scheduled days of each month. The tours include a brief preview of the labor & delivery unit, postpartum unit, and the newborn nursery. Topics reviewed include: security, birth certificate facts, visitor policy for labor and delivery, packing for your hospital stay, parking rates, Lactation Station support, the GBMC "Doula Touch" program and Parent Education Classes. If you have plans to attend our "Childbirth Education" or "Weekender" Class a tour will be given during class time.
Tour Reservation Information:
- Mandatory: In order to attend an OB tour all adults must submit a Maryland State drivers license or picture ID. You will not be permitted to attend a tour without a valid picture ID.
- Tours are limited to expecting parents and their children only
- Strollers cannot be accommodated during the tour
- Pre-registration is required due to limited space available. We can only accommodate 20 clients per tour. Please register only for the dates listed on the calendar listings.
- Registration should be made by your second trimester
- During the tour you will be given a GBMC policy and procedure packet. It is very important that you review this information prior to being admitted to the hospital. Children will not be permitted to stay overnight. Childcare arrangements should be made in advance for their care.
- All tours will begin on time. Tour guide will not be able to revisit missed locations if you are late.
Time table suggestions
- Month 1-4 Schedule and Obstetrical tour if it is not included in a class you will be taking
- Month 5-6 Begin interviewing pediatricians and childcare providers (if needed)
- Month 7 Contract for GBMC Birth and/or Postpartum Doula Support (a doula is what came before the baby nurse)
- Month 8-9 Choose a Pediatrician, purchase a car seat and set an appointment with Cato Whittle, NHTSA Certified car seat installer 443-849-6262.
- Be sure you add your insurance company to your phone call list. Many insurance companies require you to add your newborn to your insurance or they will not recognize them as a covered dependant.
