Sleep Services

Services provided by GBMC's Sleep Center include comprehensive sleep studies for adults experiencing ongoing difficulty falling asleep, maintaining sleep, exhibiting excessive sleepiness during waking hours or undergoing bariatric surgery. The studies, which are conducted in home-like settings with private bathrooms, provide essential data on sleep patterns. The data is evaluated by certified sleep technicians from Sleep Services of America and GBMC physicians. Turnaround for preliminary reports is three days, and sleep studies can usually be scheduled within the same week.

This hospital-based Sleep Center operates under the direction of Dr. Brian Bohner, Medical Director (board-certified in Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care) along with Dr. Mark Gosnell, Dr. Cynthia Soriano and Dr. Marie Chatham, all of whom are Board Certified Physicians of SMAM (Sleep Medicine Associates of Maryland).

Latest Sleep Services News
In December 2009, GBMC's Sleep Center received five-year accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

"Though it is not a requirement in Maryland, accreditation by the AASM is the gold standard for providing top quality sleep services," says Brian Bohner, MD, Medical Director of GBMC's Sleep Center. "Only 5 percent of sleep labs in the state are among the member accredited centers of the AASM."

The yearlong process toward accreditation required collaboration between Sleep Services of America, Sleep Center staff and physicians as well as employees from other GBMC departments. Standards for the accreditation include upholding requirements for staffing, quality, environment, follow-up, physician qualifications, reporting, equipment and policies and procedures. The Sleep Center met all requirements with no deficiencies noted.
