Physicians Anesthesia Associates, P.A. (PAA) has been the sole provider of anesthesia services at Greater Baltimore Medical Center since the hospital's inception in 1965. The Department of Anesthesiology at GBMC is composed entirely of group members. All 28 of our physicians are Board Certified in Anesthesiology. It is an absolute requirement of our organization that each physician be board certified within two years of joining the group. Most of our physicians have additional fellowship training in one or more anesthesia sub-specialty areas (i.e., pediatrics, cardiac, obstetrics, and pain management). Furthermore, several members of PAA currently hold faculty appointments at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. This provides us with a depth of training and expertise which can rival most academic medical centers.
In addition, to its physician members, PAA also employs 20 highly trained and experienced certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA). Anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists work closely together to deliver high quality patient care. Anesthesia services at GBMC are delivered either by an anesthesiologist alone or an anesthesiologist/CRNA team directed by the physician.
