Ray Gervacio F. Blanco, MD, FACS

Dr. Blanco earned his medical degree from the University of Santo Thomas, completed his residency at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, and his fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He is dedicated to the care of head and neck patients with benign and malignant tumors. His special interests include salivary gland tumors, parathyroid gland tumors, cancers of the mouth, throat, larynx, cervical esophagus, thyroid, sinuses, head and neck skin malignancy and skull base. Other special interests are organ sparing surgeries, laryngeal preservation surgery (supracricoid laryngectomy). Dr. Blanco is actively involved in the research on the use of Trans Oral Robotic Surgery (TORS) for minimally invasive head and neck surgery.

Dr. Califano earned his medical degree from Harvard University, completed his residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and his fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is a practicing head and neck surgeon with an interest in salivary gland tumors, cancers of the mouth, throat, larynx, sinuses, thyroid, and skull base. He is active investigator who described the initial genetic progression model for head and neck cancer development. He is currently the principal investigator of multiple multi-institutional trials focused on head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and premalignant disease of the head and neck. His current laboratory research interests include the molecular biologic basis of head and neck cancer development, with a particular interest in molecular alterations in premalignant lesions, epigenetic regulation, mitochondrial dysregulation, as well as molecular detection and surveillance.

Dr. Fakhry continues to serve as Assistant Professor, Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Ha received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, and completed both his residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is a board-certified head and neck surgeon and Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Ha is actively involved in NIH-funded research in the basic mechanisms of salivary gland cancers. He also has a special interest in endoscopic laser techniques for organ sparing surgeries.

Dr. Saunders earned his medical degree from Georgetown University, and completed his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He is board-certified in surgery from the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Saunders is also is a past president of The Society of Head and Neck Surgeons and the Baltimore Academy of Surgery. Dr. Saunders has specialized in head and neck surgery since 1980 and has a special interest in quality of life issues for patients with head and neck cancer.

Rochelle greets, checks-in, registers and collects co-pays from patients. She schedules return and missed appointments and coordinates all patient medical record requests. She enjoys working with our patients and treats them as family.

Her hobbies are roller skating and spending quality time with family.

Sharnet checks-in and registers patients, verifies insurance eligibility and obtains referrals and authorizations for diagnostic procedures performed in the office. She assists the patients with coordinating tests and consultations with other oncology specialists.

Her hobbies are spending time with family and shopping.

Alvina joined the Head and Neck Surgery Department in 2000. She schedules, registers and verifies insurance eligibility for new patient appointments. She assists the patients with coordinating tests and consultations with other oncology specialists. Alvina enjoys working in the department and helping all of the patients who need appointments or studies.

Alvina is married with 3 children and 5 grandchildren (2 twin girls age 16 months, grandsons ages 14, 10 and 4). In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys gardening and volunteering at her church.

Alelaine Moye

Alelaine joined GBMC in 1997 working as a unit clerk on Unit 36 and transferred to the Head and Neck Surgery Department in 2007.

As Surgical Poster, she meets with patients to coordinate scheduling of surgical and diagnostic procedures, arranges for pre-admission testing, verifies insurance eligibility and authorizes surgical procedures. She also performs office billing, schedules office appointments and provides general clerical support.

Itzel Howard-Rivera

Itzel (Angie) Howard-Rivera, RMA, CCMA

Certified Medical Assistant

Itzel joined the Head and Neck Surgery Department in March, 2006. She is a member of American Registry of Medical Assistant and National Healthcareer Association

Itzel assists physicians in the exam room with direct patient care. She is responsible for taking vitals, updating medication lists, assists with office procedures, processes labs, refills medication requests, tracks diagnostic tests and lab results.

In her spare time she likes to watch baseball and football and is a NY Yankee fan.

Courtney Martin

Certified Medical Assistant

Courtney joined the Head and Neck Surgery Department in October, 2011. She is a member of the American Medical Technology (AMT) group.

Courtney assists the physicians in the exam room with direct patient care. She is responsible for taking vitals, updating medication lists, assists with office procedures, processes labs, refills medication requests, tracks diagnostic tests and lab results.

Her hobbies include walking trails, bike riding and spending time with family.

Dawn joined GBMC in August, 1990 and worked in various administrative roles in the Milton J. Dance Head & Neck Center from 1991 to 2007. In 2004, she joined the Head and Neck Surgery Department. She is a Certified Medical Office Manager and an active member of the Practice Management Institute.

As Practice Manager, she has over 20 years administrative experience working in Head and Neck oncology. She oversees and manages the daily administrative and clinical activities of the department.
