The Volunteer Services Department
Mary Pat Marzullo came to GBMC in 2005 as Volunteer Services Representative and in April of 2007 was promoted to Director of Volunteer Services. She manages the Volunteer program that works with 700 volunteers on an annual basis. Her responsibilities also include the supervision of fund-raising components for the gift shop, the Nearly New sale and the vendor sales and acting as organization liaison to the Volunteer Auxiliary Board. Her extensive managerial background encompasses both the public and private sectors. Before joining GBMC, Mary Pat was the volunteer director both at an adult multi-care center and a homeless shelter. Additionally, she owned and managed a video production company where clients included many local non-profit and educational institutions as well as national and international clients.Mary Pat is a member of several professional organizations, which focus on volunteerism and has served as a Board Member for the Maryland Council Directors of Volunteer Services.
Raylene Backstrom has been with GBMC for more than 12 years as manager of The Corner Shop, the hospital's premier gift shop. Raylene is responsible for all purchasing, merchandising, staffing, and administrative functions associated with the shop. Raylene also supervises many GBMC volunteers who share their time and expertise in assisting with sales and customer transactions.
Prior to joining GBMC, Raylene held several key retail positions at The Village of Cross Keys. Bringing more than a decade of retail experience, she has been instrumental in transforming The Corner Shop into a premier shopping attraction, appealing to a variety of patrons ranging from hospital employees, visitors, and patients, to the surrounding community at large.
