Emergency Department Volunteer
In support to the hospital, the Emergency Department volunteer acts as a liaison between the patient's family/significant other and hospital personnel to keep the family informed of status of treatment, and assists the Emergency Department staff with clerical duties. The Emergency Room volunteer also acts as host, providing families with directions and other information needed during their wait.
- Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Emergency Room staff to keep patient families and significant others informed of treatment status and location changes.
- Stock linen and supplies.
- Provide directions and other information needed during a family/significant other's wait.
- Handle phone responsibilities in accordance with policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and release of patient information.

This position description briefly describes this role's responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as determined to support the hospital. All volunteers are required to (a) notify designated staff member of any absences; (b) sign in and out when reporting to and leaving their volunteer assignment; (c) conform to established dress code including wearing hospital-issued name badge; (d) maintain confidentiality; and (e) adhere to annual compliance requirements as set forth by GBMC and its regulatory agency.
