Gift Shop Volunteer
In support to the hospital, the gift shop volunteer maximizes sales by assisting in operating the Gift Shop, greeting and assisting customers, marking items, bookkeeping, displaying items, processing sales transactions, restocking inventory, and minimizing opportunity for theft.
- Greet and assist customers in merchandise selection.
- Remain familiar with inventory and new items, and restock displays.
- Process cash, check, and charge purchases according to established procedures.
- Provide directions and other information needed during a family/significant other's wait.
- Minimize opportunity for theft through familiarity with inventory and displays, personally greeting and assisting each customer, and notifying appropriate personnel when suspecting someone of concealing merchandise.
- Use of cash register to process sales transactions.
- Attention to detail in an environment where public contact is constant.
- Work effectively without direct supervision.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to work as a team player.
This position description briefly describes this role's responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as determined to support the hospital. All volunteers are required to (a) notify designated staff member of any absences; (b) sign in and out when reporting to and leaving their volunteer assignment; (c) conform to established dress code including wearing hospital-issued name badge; (d) maintain confidentiality; and (e) adhere to annual compliance requirements as set forth by GBMC and its regulatory agency.
