Spiritual Support Volunteer

In support to the hospital, the spiritual support volunteer's role is to endeavor to manifest spiritual healing by listening, supporting, and, when appropriate, praying with the patient when requested.

  • Responsibilities: 

* Meet with patients in an open and non-judgmental way.
* Meet with patients with respect and unconditional acceptance.
* Endeavor to manifest spiritual healing by listening, supporting, and when appropriate praying with the patient.

  • Competencies:

 - Work effectively with others without direct supervision.
 - Ability to listen well.
 - Ability to understand and clearly communicate information both written and orally.
 - Ability to access a patient's spiritual needs as requested by the patient and/or medical staff.

This position description briefly describes this role's responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as determined to support the hospital.  All volunteers are required to (a) notify designated staff member of any absences; (b) sign in and out when reporting to and leaving their volunteer assignment; (c) conform to established dress code including wearing hospital-issued name badge; (d) maintain confidentiality; and (e) adhere to annual compliance requirements as set forth by GBMC and its regulatory agency.
