Volunteering Makes a Difference

"Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, and patience, and just plain loving one another."

Erma Bombeck

Three Steps to Becoming a Volunteer

Becoming a GBMC volunteer is as easy as one, two, three -- (1) preview session, (2) screening interview, and (3) orientation.

The first step for all prospective volunteers is to attend a Preview Session, which is held monthly. High school students please note, you must attend one of the following Preview sessions only: the one in January, April, May, or September. You may not attend any other Preview sessions. Please open the links to see the dates of the January, May or September Preview sessions. Adults may attend any of the Preview sessions. The preview session enables prospective volunteers to become more familiar with GBMC and its volunteer opportunities. Click    here    to view upcoming preview dates.

At the preview session, you will receive a volunteer application form that must be completed and brought to your screening interview, which is step two. A personal, one-on-one interview allows us to evaluate your capabilities, assess your interests with the needs of the hospital, and identify mutually beneficial options for your selection. Click    here    to view a sample of volunteer positions.

The final step before beginning your volunteer work is the orientation session to acquaint you with GBMC's policies, procedures, and compliance* regulations. At this time, we will review and confirm your volunteer assignment, start date, and service hours with you. All volunteers will receive additional training relevant to their position upon starting in their service area.

*    Volunteers must adhere to compliance requirements as stated by GBMC and its regulatory agencies. GBMC volunteers must have a TB test taken, complete a safety test, sign a confidentiality agreement and code of business ethics, and have an assessment conducted -- each on an annual basis.
