Greater Baltimore Medical Center High-Risk Obstetric Unit

The Greater Baltimore Medical Center 11-bed High-Risk Obstetric Unit is designed for expectant mothers who are facing life-threatening complications with pregnancy.  It is the only one of its kind in the Baltimore region and consolidates all perinatal services, inpatient care and antepartum testing facilities into a single location for a seamless continuum of care.

High-risk obstetricians, perinatologists, intensivists and neonatologists work together to ensure the healthiest outcomes possible.  The unit is adjacent to the Labor and Delivery Suite, for immediate transfer if necessary.

GBMC received a portion of the funding, $527,000 thanks to a bond bill approved by the 1999 Legislative Session of the State of Maryland to fund major hospital improvement projects. Delegate Martha Klima and Senator Andre Harris sponsored the measure due to GBMC's important mission as a high-risk OB hospital.  The High-Risk Obstetric Unit is devoted to the superior care of the mother who needs to be admitted prior to delivery. Using state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, specially trained nurses bring peace of mind to patients. Here, too, dieticians, physical therapists, diabetes educators, and other professionals work together to promote healthy babies.
