How to Avoid Irritation from Your Mask
#1: Choose the right material for your mask and take care of it
Dr. Blanchard recommended choosing masks that are made of cotton fabric because they are breathable but still keep out the virus. The mask should have two layers of fabric and a pocket to insert a filter, if possible. He suggested washing your mask at the end of each day because they are not intended for multiple uses. #2: Make sure your mask fits properly
Your mask should have a tight seal around your nose and mouth. But, if it is too tight, it can rub against your skin and cause irritation. If you are having trouble finding a mask that fits properly, look for one with adjustable straps.
#3: Use barrier creams to avoid irritation
It is important to protect your skin from irritation, which may happen even if you take other precautions. Barrier creams that have ceramides as an ingredient often help to avoid and alleviate this irritation. This is especially important for those with sensitive skin.
