Oncology Support Services for the Entire Family at the Sandra & Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute

October 9, 2018
Too often, cancer treatment is approached as a purely physical battle. What can be left unaddressed is the toll treatment takes on a patient’s life outside the hospital walls.

The GBMC Oncology Support Services team is there to provide support for the whole person and their caregivers, completely free of charge.

Transportation to and from physician appointments, chemotherapy and radiation treatment can place a significant strain on patients. With up to 100 hospital visits a year, transportation assistance can be a huge weight lifted off their shoulders.

Counseling services can help with the emotional toll of a cancer diagnosis, empowering patients and families to cope with fear, anger and grief.

The financial challenges of care can take a massive toll on patients’ resources as well and the support team can point to available community resources.

Support services begins at the initial diagnosis and continue even after a patient is cancer free.

There are already enough hurdles to overcome. GBMC Oncology Support Services is there to help smooth the way.
