Did you know that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, among both men and women and that it causes more deaths annually than colon, prostate, ovarian and breast cancers combined?

It’s no secret that people who smoke have the greatest risk of developing lung cancer and what’s concerning is that lung cancer doesn’t usually cause symptoms until the cancer is advanced and not able to be cured. For that reason, doctors highly recommend lung cancer screenings because looking for lung cancer in people, like current or former smokers, who do not have any symptoms is a smart decision.

Jennifer L. Sullivan, MD, a thoracic surgeon at GBMC, discusses these lung cancer screenings as well as how lung cancer is treated if found.
