New Cohen Lecture Series Launched
A 2019 gift from Dr. Gary Cohen came to fruition Friday, October 14, 2022, when J. Leonard Lichtenfeld, MD, MACP, gave his presentation, "Early Detection of Cancer: An Unfinished Journey." The many clinicians who attended gained valuable insights into the promise and limitations of new detection and treatment methods for cancer. Dr. Lichtenfeld is the Chief Medical Officer of Jasper Health, Inc., and the former Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Interim Chief Medical and Scientific Officer at the American Cancer Society. The presentation was the first for the Charlene M. and Gary I. Cohen Healthcare Delivery and Innovation Lectureship.

Dr. Celano Helping to Guide Cancer Treatment Nationally
Paul Celano, MD, FACP, FASCO, the Herman and Walter Samuelson Medical Director of the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute, was published recently in the Journal of Clinical Oncology as an author of "Therapy for Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with Driver Alterations: ASCO Living Guideline." Dr. Celano has contributed to examining the effectiveness of lung cancer treatment and to updating national guidelines for several years.

Alvena Sims Earns CTR Credential
A Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) is someone who exhibits proficiency in the cancer registry field. GBMC’s Alvena Sims, CTR, earned this credential from the nationally recognized National Cancer Registrars Association. The CTR was developed to ensure professionalism and mark achievement in the field. Sims passed the Certified Tumor Registrar Examination and earn her CTR in just 18 months.

Dr. Sarah Fogarty Presents at International Breast Surgery Webinar
Earlier this year, specialized breast surgeon Sara Fogarty, DO, FACS, was a featured panelist at the 14th annual Breast Surgery Webinar, sponsored by the Alexandria Medical Training Center WebSchool in Cairo, Egypt. During the webinar, Dr. Fogarty’s discussion was centered around “Updates in Management of the Axilla in Breast Cancer.” Dr. Fogarty is the Medical Director of the Sandra & Malcolm Berman Comprehensive Breast Care Center at GBMC.
