Michael W. Stein Appointed GBMC Hospital EVP and COO

Michael W. Stein, MHSA, FACMPE, has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of GBMC Hospital. 

Mike has served in this role on an interim basis since December 2025, providing steady leadership while advancing priorities focused on operational excellence, financial performance, employee engagement, and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. 

Since joining GBMC in 2014, Mike has taken on progressively broader leadership responsibilities. Before becoming interim EVP and COO, he served as Senior Vice President of Clinical and Support Operations, overseeing a wide range of clinical programs and hospital services with responsibility for more than 500 employees. He previously spent more than eight years leading Oncology Services across GBMC HealthCare. 

Throughout his tenure, Mike has helped expand access to care, strengthen key service lines, improve operational and financial performance, and support significant investments in our campus and facilities. His accomplishments include helping lead the planning and opening of the Sandra R. Berman Pavilion, expanding infusion and laboratory services, and optimizing outpatient imaging services through our joint venture with Advanced Radiology. 

During his time as interim COO, Mike also helped reduce overall operating expenses while developing initiatives to improve hospital throughput and efficiency, leading the hospital to exceed its budgeted net operating income in the latter half of fiscal year 2026.
