Spiritual Support Team at GBMC

Chaplain Marsh provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, their families, and the staff of GBMC hospital and outpatient offices, supervises on-call chaplains who provide spiritual support to patients and families overnight and weekends, and works with our Volunteer Department to recruit and train spiritual support visitors for patients and families. In addition to her clinical focus, she is a member of the hospital’s Ethics Committee, the Dr. John Adams Rounds Planning Committee, and the DEI Planning Committee, and is the Spiritual Support representative on the GBMC Cancer Committee. 

Chaplain Marsh has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences from The Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Villanova University, a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Divinity degree from Starr King School for the Ministry in Oakland, California. She is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister and served as a parish minister for two years before becoming the Manager of Spiritual Support Services at GBMC. She is currently the affiliate community minister at Towson Unitarian Universalist Church. 

Prior to serving as a parish minister, Chaplain Marsh was a per diem and on-call chaplain at several area hospitals including GBMC. She completed a one-year chaplain residency and then a one-year chaplain fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital where she served patients, families, and staff. Before answering the call of ministry, Chaplain Marsh worked first as an environmental scientist and then as an environmental attorney.

Rev. Fr.  Xavier Kachappilly O.SS. T, belongs to the religious Order of the Most Holy Trinity and of the Captives (The Trinitarians), serving in the Arch Diocese of Baltimore Maryland. Ordained as a priest in 2008, he has been appointed in the various ministries including Pastor and Principal of St. Xavier’s High School, Assam, Minister and Formator of Minor and Major Seminarians at Holy Trinity Ashram, in Thrissur and Bangalore, India, Pastor and Principal of St. Xavier’s High School, Assam, and Minister and Principal at DeMatha English Medium School, Assam, India. He is currently appointed as Associate Pastor at the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier Church at Hunt Vally, MD, and serves as our Catholic Chaplain at GBMC Hospital and Gilchrist Hospice. 

Reverend Vito was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore in May of 2013 and is currently assigned to GBMC. Vito visits patients in the critical care units offering spiritual support and emotional reassurance. He also attends Ethics Committee meetings and family consults as needed. He earned a B.A in Religious Studies with minors in Latin American studies and Philosophy from Notre Dame of Maryland University. He holds two masters degrees from Saint Mary’s Seminary & University Ecumenical Institute of Theology, an M.A. in Theology and an M.A. in Church Ministries with a concentration in Pastoral Care. Vito and his wife of 40 years, Doris, established the Hope for Morrope Foundation, a 501C3 non-profit corporation in 2002 which provides post secondary education leading to university admission for the underprivileged in Morrope, Peru.

GBMC has a distinct honor of partnering with the Assistance Center of Towson Churches at various times during the year to support needy families at the holidays, as well as a to provide a nurse practitioner to do health screenings for guests who come to the center each month.

Bikur Cholim (visiting the sick) is a Jewish organization providing encouragement and reassurance to patients and families. At GBMC they provide challah bread, grape juice and candles for Shabbat on a weekly basis.
